• BeforeRent helps you document a rental car’s condition before you drive off—so a scratch you didn’t make never becomes your bill.

How to use

• 1. Start a record

Tap New Record, choose your vehicle type, and add the car’s name or plate number if you’d like. Everything except the photos is optional.

• 2. Shoot 8 guided spots

Follow the on-screen guide: front, driver front/rear, rear, passenger front/rear, wheels, and dashboard. Each photo is saved with its time and location. You can skip any spot, finish early, or import photos you already took from your library.

• 3. Mark existing damage

Tap a photo to place a circle over any scratch, dent, crack, or stain. Adjust the size and line thickness, and add a note. Pinch to zoom for more precise marking.

• 4. Return with confidence

When you return the car, shoot the same 8 spots again and compare them side by side with your pickup photos. If there’s a dispute, export a PDF report—every photo, with its timestamp, location, and damage marks, in one document.

• Where is my data stored?

Everything stays on your device. BeforeRent has no server, no account, and no sign-up. Nothing is ever uploaded.

• What happens if I delete the app?

All records and photos are deleted with it. If you want to keep the evidence, export a PDF report—or make sure photo backup to your Photos library is enabled—before deleting.

• Why does the app ask for camera, location, and photo permissions?
• *Camera — to take photos of the car.
• *Location — to stamp each photo with where it was taken, which strengthens it as evidence. You can decline; photos will simply be saved without location.
• *Photos (add only) — to keep a backup copy of your shots in the Photos app. The app never reads your existing photo library; importing photos uses the system picker, which shares only the photos you select.
